Sports Nutrition
For performance
Proper nutrition, tailored to an athlete’s specific sport, training cycle, and competition schedule, is just as crucial to performance as practicing their sport. Just as an athlete needs to hone their physical skills and endurance, their body requires the right fuel to perform, recover, and adapt to the demands of training and competition.
At Fueling for Recovery, we provide personalized nutrition education and counseling designed to meet the unique needs of each athlete. We take into account their sport’s specific demands—whether it’s endurance, strength, speed, or flexibility—along with their individual training intensity, goals, and recovery needs. This tailored approach ensures that athletes are equipped with the optimal nutrition to support not only peak performance but also effective recovery.
Key components of our approach include:
- Training cycle nutrition
- Pre- and post-competition fueling
- Hydration strategies
- Injury prevention and recovery:
- Realistic and sustainable plans
Performance Without a Cost
Fueling for Recovery prides itself on helping athletes understand their nutrition and their bodies in order to empower them to fuel appropriately and identifies areas of misinformation in their sport.
Our Approach for Performance
Training Cycle Nutrition
We help athletes understand how their nutritional needs fluctuate throughout different phases of their training, such as during intense training blocks, tapering periods, and off-season. This means adjusting macronutrient intake (proteins, carbs, fats) and micronutrient levels to match energy expenditure, support muscle repair, and enhance endurance.
Pre- and Post-Competition Fueling
Nutrition strategies are discussed and determ to prepare the body for peak performance during competition and aid in recovery after. This might include strategies for carb-loading, electrolyte balancing, and refueling with protein and carbohydrates post-event to promote muscle repair and replenish glycogen stores.
Injury prevention
Chronic injuries in endurance sports such as running can be common. While a physiotherapist and coach can help address the specific injury, sometimes medical doctors and dietitians can explore how your current behaviors and lifestyle may be contributing to this. A common example is an individual with recurrent stress fractures. I cannot stress enough that stress fractures ARE NOT a normal part of training and are often representative of an underlying problem. A dietitian can help rule out or address hormonal imbalances due to inadequate intake or impaired recovery due to intake of poor quality food.
Injury Prevention and Recovery
Optimal nutrition can help reduce the risk of injury and speed up the recovery process. We focus on foods rich in anti-inflammatory properties, key vitamins, and minerals that support healing, such as omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and calcium.
Realistic and Sustainable Plans
We recognize that every athlete has a unique lifestyle, training schedule, and dietary preferences. Our goal is to create nutrition plans that are not only scientifically backed but also practical and sustainable for each individual. This means making recommendations that fit the athlete’s everyday reality, including travel, food access, and personal preferences, ensuring they can maintain their nutrition plan consistently.
